Wilshire Hires Former Hanmi Executive for Marketing Role

Wilshire Bancorp (WIBC) in Los Angeles said Monday that it had hired Jung Hak Son as its chief marketing officer, a position he took over in 2009. Son, who will manage a newly created group at the $2.8 billion-asset company, will be responsible for developing new business relationships for the bank. Son recently serve as chief credit officer at Hanmi Bank (HAFC).

"Son has spent his entire career working with Korean-American banks in the Los Angeles area and has proven to be one of the most accomplished bankers in our industry," J.W. Yoo, Wilshire's president and chief executive, said in a press release. "His experience in lending, branch management and credit administration gives him a unique perspective on the efforts required to attract high quality new relationships to the bank."

Hanmi announced Son's resignation in late August.

It can be challenging keeping up with the game of musical chairs being played by Korean-American banks this year.

Hanmi recently hired Chong Guk Kim, a former head of First California Bank, as its president and CEO and Bonita Lee, a former chief credit officer at BBCN Bancorp (BBCN), to handle credit responsibilities. And BBCN hired Soo Bong Min, a former head of Wilshire, as its permanent president and CEO.
