Five-year-old dLocal specializes in cross-border payments, connecting merchants to emerging markets. A June listing on Nasdaq, which valued the company at $10 billion, created more awareness for the Montevideo, Uruguay-based firm as it recruits merchants, staff and develops new financial services.
Sumita Pandit, who became chief operating officer of dLocal in April following a stint as managing director and global head of fintech investment banking for J.P. Morgan Chase, discusses her new job, financial inclusion, and innovation such as blockchain and cryptocurrency.
dLocal has made several partnerships to expand in Africa, and has also added Google Pay in emerging markets. Expanded support cryptocurrency may be next, as dLocal looks to weave emerging payment types into its existing mix of more than 600 payment methods.
