Contactless payments have seen widespread adoption during the coronavirus pandemic — and germaphobia is certainly part of it — but there are many other factors at play.
Regulation and card network policies are playing a role, allowing for larger contactless purchase amounts. Technology has also advanced, as merchants and transit systems moved ahead with new deployments even as customers were locked down at home. And while mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay are more common than ever, plastic cards are still a key driver of how people pay.
