While in lockdown, many of us have done more of our shopping digitally — even for purchases we pick up in person — to reduce the risk of transmitting disease from human contact. We're also consuming more digital content, such as movies and video games, than ever before.
And while we're watching movies, scammers are watching us, looking for new ways to steal our personal data and payments information.
But it's not a free-for-all. Fraudsters want to make the most amount of money with the least amount of effort. This means both finding the weak links to steal data, and using sophisticated bots and other technologies to use their stolen credentials before all the passwords get reset and account numbers get reissued.
