Wirecard powers prepaid card for blood plasma donors

The North American subsidiary of Germany’s Wirecard AG is providing the technology behind a prepaid Visa card that distributes cash rewards to blood donors.

Boca Raton, Fla.-based CSL Plasma worked with Wirecard to develop the product to support CSL’s new iGive Rewards Loyalty Program, enabling U.S. blood donors to earn points for plasma donations, the companies said in a Tuesday press release. The points can be converted to cash that can be spent from the Visa card.

Donors may earn up to $400 a month for blood donations through CSL, but members of the company’s loyalty program may gain additional benefits by joining the iGive Rewards program to earn additional points.

“The evolution of the iGive Program ... is another way that CSL Plasma is delivering on its promise to give back to the donors that give their time to make sure plasma is available to make life-saving therapy of patients in need,” said Robert Mitchell, CSL’s director of marketing and corporate communications.

For Wirecard, a white-label provider of electronic payment services, the deal with CSL is part of its global expansion plan.

“Recently entering the North America market was an important step for Wirecard to extend our capabilities globally,” said Deirdre Ives, Wirecard North America’s managing director.
