Wirecard, Google Pay connect in France

Germany-based Wirecard is working with Google to enable users of Wirecard’s boon mobile app to pay at any French merchant that accepts Google Pay as it becomes available in France.

Through Wirecard’s integration, boon users may link any Visa or Mastercard to the app or load funds to the boon app from a bank account for payments, according to a Tuesday press release.

“Boon participating in the launch of Google Pay in France will drive the digitization of payments further forward,” said Georg von Waldenfels, Wirecard’s executive vice president of consumers solutions, in a Tuesday press release.

Wirecard has promoted boon, which operates independently of banks and telecommunications providers, as a standalone mobile payment option for Android handset users in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. The app is available to iOS users in France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and the U.K., Wirecard said in the release.
