Western Union Takes Bill Payment Service to Walgreens

Western Union and Walgreens have come together to offer a new bill payment service.

The service, called Western Union Bill Payment, will be available at more than 7,800 Walgreens and Duane Reade locations. The service will be housed in the same kiosks where photo and BalanceTM Financial services are currently offered.

Via the self-service kiosks, consumers can pay bills to more than 15,000 billers. Consumers can also access Western Union's existing international and domestic money transfer services and customers rewards programs through the kiosks.

At the kiosks, consumers independently work through their transaction, which is then finalized at a cash register. The service will be available from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time.

"Offering a fuller menu of financial services supports our drive to provide customers with ultimate convenience," said Jay Bernstein, Walgreens manager of financial services, in a Sept. 30 news release. "With Western Union’s expanded offerings, customers can now visit our store to quickly pay an eligible utility bill or more easily transfer funds to a college student out-of-state or a relative overseas."
