Western Union Co.’s mobile app customers can now use Apple Pay to send funds originating in the U.S. to more than 200 countries and territories worldwide, including domestic bill-payments.
Customers may initiate a funds-transfer within the Western Union app with Touch ID, with funds coming from the user’s preferred payment source, Western Union said in an April 5 press release. The company said it plans to expand Apple Pay to users in the U.K. later this year.
About 60% of all Western Union global digital money transfers original on a mobile device, said Khalid Fellahi, Western Union Digital’s senior vice president and general manager, in the release. “By bringing Apple Pay as a payment method in the U.S. and later to the U.K., Western Union is delivering an exceptional experience across our mobile platform, allowing our customer to conveniently and reliably move money, wherever they please.”
Western Union currently allows consumers to send funds globally to 37 countries via its website, and via its mobile app in 18 countries.
