Verizon Wireless expects to increase customer throughput through an agreement to deploy Rover, AnywhereCommerce's device designed to alleviate the need for customers to wait in checkout lines.
Rover is a PCI-certified magnetic stripe card reader and PIN-entry device that integrates with AnywhereCommerce's Motion Computing tablets. Rover mounts to the tablet, enabling the full breadth of expedited line busting checkout, Verizon noted in a Jan. 11 press release. Customers now may use their credit card, check card or PIN-debit card for checkout throughout the stores, Verizon said.
"Secure line-busting checkout is becoming mainstream," Mitchell Cobrin, AnywhereCommerce CEO, said in the release. "Retailers are reengineering and rationalizing their floor-space; AnywhereCommerce extends the traditional checkout lane and cash register to anywhere in or out of the store."
The AnywhereCommerce suite supports all the major operating systems, including Apple Inc.’s iOS, Google Inc.’s Android, Research in Motion Ltd.’s Blackberry and Microsoft Corp.’s Windows. Additionally, AnywhereCommerce universally integrates with any mobile phone or tablet, such as Apple's iPads and the Samsung Galaxy Tab, according to the release.
AnywhereCommerce's Rover interfaces through the earjack audio port or the USB port.
