Univision Prepaid Card Adds Meta as an Issuer

MetaBank has teamed up with Univision Communications, a media company serving Hispanic Americans, to become another issuer of its prepaid card.

The partnership, through Meta Payment Systems, will produce a MasterCard prepaid card, according to an April 15 news release. Univision first formed a partnership to release prepaid cards with MasterCard in 2009, for cards issued by The Bancorp Bank.

Univision tapped MetaBank as an issuer to add infrastructure that could support future expansion, Bob Harada, Univision vice president and head of prepaid card services, said in the release. For MetaBank, the partnership provides exposure to a wider consumer base.

"Our vision of promoting financial inclusion for everyone fits well with the philosophy of Univision," Meta Payment Systems president Brad Hanson said in the release.
