Square adds SDK for mobile payments

Square has rolled out a software development kit for developers to add payments to their mobile apps, creating an end-to-end solution using only Square’s tools.

The move comes as Square steps up its ambitions to directly service merchants with rounded-out services, including exploring getting its own bank charter.

The Square In-App Payments SDK supports a customizable flow for credit and debit card and digital wallet payments within any Android, iOS or Flutter app in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Australia and Japan, Square said in a Wednesday press release.

The addition of a Square-built mobile app lets sellers using the integrated approach see all their payment types in a single back-office system, Square said in the release.

“With the introduction of in-app mobile payments to the Square platform, developers now have a complete, omnichannel payments solution for all their payment needs,” said Carl Perry, Square’s lead developer, in the release.
