SpotOn, Poynt target small businesses with multi-service terminal

Payments software provider SpotOn Transact is partnering with terminal maker Poynt to provide loyalty, marketing and point-of-sale services in a new terminal for small and medium-size businesses.

SpotOn says it is the first company to partner with Poynt to integrate its multi-channel platform into the Poynt terminal hardware.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based Poynt has positioned itself the past five years as a competitor to Square and other providers of custom software apps for merchants. The company recently raised $100 million in a funding round from Elavon and National Australia Bank.

The SpotOn platform includes business analytics, appointment scheduling, web design, POS software, marketing initiatives, customer reviews and loyalty programs.

“We are excited to offer a combined hardware and software solution which both reduces the merchant’s physical and environmental footprint while integrating credit card processing with customer engagement software,” RJ Horsley, president of San Francisco-based SpotOn, said in a Thursday press release.

“These tools are critical to a business owner because they enable all types of secure payment acceptance, drive consumer engagement and make it easier to run their business," Horsley added.

Poynt is making its new terminal available for $15 to merchants who process credit cards with SpotOn.

“We’ve long believed that merchants deserve an easy and seamless experience when it comes to the technology they rely on,” Osama Bedier, Poynt’s founder and CEO, said in the release. “Poynt’s all-in-one ecosystem was developed to work with companies like SpotOn to offer retailers innovative tools to better run their business.”
