Samsung Pay to add cash-back rewards, virtual assistant shopping

Samsung Pay has worked to differentiate itself from other mobile wallets with Samsung Rewards, and now it’s enriching that program with a cash-back option and the ability to purchase rewards points like airline mileage programs.

A new “Cash Back” section within Samsung Pay will soon display wallet-linked offers from merchants including Walmart, Warby Parker and Etsy; consumers purchasing those items will get a percentage back instantly in the Samsung Pay wallet, Samsung said in a Thursday blog post.

Later this month Samsung Pay users will be able to purchase Samsung Rewards points to combine with their rewards balances, which they can use for purchases with Samsung Pay at the point of sale or within the app, according to the blog post.

Samsung also announced that with new Bixby Shopping features, consumers can point their smartphone camera at certain items for immediate purchasing.

When the camera focuses on an item sold by a partner merchant, the device displays more information and directs the user to a website to purchase the item on the spot.
