Samsung Pay reportedly going live soon in the U.K.

Samsung Pay last week went live in four more regions—Hong Kong, Sweden, Switzerland and the UAE—but despite reaching 14 major global markets, it’s still not officially available in the U.K., one of the world’s most active zones for contactless payments.

Samsung Pay may launch in the U.K. as soon as May 16, according to reports. Samsung representatives did not respond to queries.

Ironically, when Apple Inc. began to expand Apple Pay outside of the U.S., the U.K. was its first stop, though it took some time for each of the major banks to support Apple's mobile wallet

Samsung Pay, which launched two years ago in the U.S., has been on a steady expansion path in key markets in Europe and Asia, enabling consumers in those markets with newer Samsung handsets to conduct contactless payments at any terminal, whether or not it’s equipped with Near Field Communication technology.

“We are incredibly proud of our rapid expansion and growth in such a short period of term, and look forward to bringing the most comprehensive digital wallet to all our users around the world,” Thomas Ko, Samsung Pay’s vice president and global general manager, said in a recent press release announcing its other expansions.
