Samsung Pay expands in Mexico via local banks

Samsung is now providing Samsung Pay to over 200,000 users in Mexico after four months since launching in the country.

Users can pay with the program anywhere that accepts credit, debit or loyalty cards. The app has the ability to store all cards and loyalty programs with a QR code. The app also allows users in Mexico who do not have a compatible credit or debit card to request a card within the app.

Samsung Pay operates through payment providers including Mastercard, Visa, and American Express; and banks such as Banorte, Banregio, Citibanamex, HSBC and Santander in Mexico.

Samsung Pay uses Near Field Communication technology as well as its Magnetic Secure Transmission technology to enable the mobile pay solution’s wide acceptance across the market. MST allows Samsung devices to generate a wireless signal that simulates a magnetic card swipe.

The company plans to continue its expansion of Samsung Pay across Latin America.
