The Australian state of Queensland has selected Cubic Corp. of San Diego to develop a mass-transit ticketing system that will support contactless payments and real-time rider account information for public transportation in the region surrounding Brisbane.
Cubic will upgrade the existing “go” system it created in 2003 to enable Queensland commuters to pay on all local public transport with payment cards, mobile phones and wearables, according to a Wednesday press release.
“We’re delighted that proven technology already used across London, Chicago and Vancouver will be further enhanced for the benefit of Queensland commuters,” said Mark Bailey, Queensland’s minister for transport and main roads, in the release.
“This new ticketing system to be installed by Cubic will provide Queensland commuters with more options and greater payment flexibility in how to pay their fares,” Matt Cole, president of Cubic Transportation Systems, said in the release.
Cubic is also installing contactless payment technology within mass-transit systems in Boston and New York.
