Powa Finds a Tech Partner for Its Mexican Strategy

U.K. e-commerce firm Powa Technologies is teaming up with Mexico-based point-of-sale software provider Sophitech to launch a tablet-powered cash-out counter for Mexican businesses.

Powa will plug its PowaPOS T25 onto Sophitech’s new SkyPOS point-of-sale application for iPad. Powa is seeking to build a business throughout Latin America, and has already partnered with hardware distribution company Ingram Micro, which has a substantial market share in the region.

The PowaPOS T25 is an iOS, Windows and Android-compatible piece of hardware that includes an EMV card reader, a barcode scanner,  a cash drawer and several other functionalities.

Tablets hold a particular appeal for small and medium –sized businesses – the target market for this joint product – because of their portability and cost efficiency, Powa noted in a Tuesday press release.

“Our partnership with SkyPOS gives more businesses across Mexico access to a next-generation solution that is scalable, flexible and affordable,” said Serafin Fuente, a regional head for Powa’s PowaPOS device, in the statement.

Latin America is becoming a must-have market for mobile payments, with an expanding m-commerce market and card network investment.
