PayByPhone to support Apple Pay in U.K.

PayByPhone will add Apple Pay as a payment option for U.K. drivers later this year, as competition in the fast-growing market for mobile payment apps intensifies.

Drivers who download the PayByPhone app may link a payment card in the iPhone’s Wallet app, eliminating the need to carry cash or coins, PayByPhone said in a Wednesday press release.

Not coincidentally, PayByPhone emphasized the security of Apple Pay’s technology. Another mobile parking app available in the U.K., RingGo, made headlines earlier this month following a data breach that exposed personal details of up to 2,000 consumers, according to news reports.

PayByPhone’s app, which features a countdown timer and reminder notifications warning of the end of a parking session, is available in 300 cities globally and it supports Apple Pay in North America.

Volkswagen Financial Services acquired PayByPhone in late 2016.
