Ukash has signed a deal that will result in the sale of its vouchers in more than 3,700 retail locations in Portugal, a spokesperson for the United Kingdom-based prepaid voucher firm tells CardLine Global. The UK firm signed the deal with Payshop, a payment-services company based in Portugal. Consumers can buy vouchers in denominations that range from 10 euros (US$14) to 100 euros. Merchants who sell the vouchers pay a fee to offer the service. A Ukash spokesperson declines to reveal the fees, saying they are "commercially sensitive," but did say the merchant cost usually is based on "a percentage rather than a flat flee." Consumers who buy a voucher receive a PIN that they enter on Web sites that accept Ukash for payments. The Portugal deal comes about six weeks after Ukash began offering its vouchers in Spain (CardLine Global, 15 April).
