NCR's Financial Services Unit Posts 7% Q2 Revenue Gain

Growth in the Americas and Europe help drive second-quarter revenue growth for the Financial Services unit at NCR Corp.

The Duluth, Ga.-based company says the unit, which makes and distributes ATMs, generated $783 million in revenue for the quarter ended June 30, up 7.4% from $729 million during the same period last year.

Among the unit's highlights was an agreement by Central Bank of Provo, Utah, to deploy 10 SelfServ machines to revamp its ATM network. The new ATMs include NCR's Scalable Deposit Module technology, which enables consumers to make deposits twice as fast compared with similar transactions at a regular ATM, NCR said in its earnings release.

NCR also introduced NCR Mobile Cash Withdrawal, which is software that enables consumers to withdraw cash from their bank accounts at ATMs using a two-dimensional bar code on a mobile device screen.

"This technology can make ATM transactions faster and more secure by removing cards and PINs from the ATM-usage process," the company stated in its earnings release.

As a company NCR reported total revenue of $1.41 billion, up 11% from $1.27 billion a year ago. Net income rose 118%, to $80 billion from $35 billion.
