MasterCard is integrating software developer Cardtek’s HCEXpert solution to enable Near Field Communication-based mobile payments for customers of MasterCard Payment Transaction Services, a unit of MasterCard.
Cardtek develops software for financial transactions and provides of EMV migration solutions. Its HCEXpert product is a cloud-based mobile payment platform that handles digitized credit, debit and prepaid cards.
Cardtek framed the deal as one that will eliminate certain IT costs for MasterCard, due to its product's open interface, according to a Nov. 11 press release. It also said integrating the solution with the MasterCard Digital Enablement Service will give an added layer of security.
HCEXpert is available in Android devices with KitKat 4.4 or higher. Google introduced host card emulation, or HCE, in that version of its mobile operating system to allow apps to make contactless mobile payments without requiring access to the handset's secure element.
