Mastercard has promoted longtime executive Ed McLaughlin to president of operations and technology, where he will oversee all of the card network’s technology functions.

Since joining Mastercard in 2005 as head of bill payment and healthcare, McLaughlin rose to become chief franchise development officer and later played a key role in driving bank adoption of Mastercard’s digital products, including Mastercard Send and the Mastercard Digital Enablement System, the company’s digital token program, according to the release.

Prior to joining Mastercard, McLaughlin led product and strategy at Metavante and earlier co-founded Paytrust, an online payments company.

McLaughlin succeeds Rob Reeg, a 22-year veteran of Mastercard who will move to a consulting role reporting to Mastercard CEO Ajay Banga through Oct 1, 2017. McLaughlin’s new position becomes effective May 1.
