MasterCard has launched its MasterPass digital wallet technology in New Zealand.
The MasterPass digital wallet enables shoppers to make online purchases from any location and device without having to reenter detailed shipping and card information.
Westpac New Zealand will be the first bank to support MasterPass in New Zealand, along with payment technology providers: Fontis, Flo2Cash, IP Payments, Payment Express, Paystation and Solutionists, MasterCard says in a press release. The local list of retailers already accepting MasterPass includes Webjet, BuyInvite, DC Shoes, Jeanswest, LivingSocial, NZSALE, Quiksilver and Roxy.
"We're very excited Westpac can be the first New Zealand bank to offer MasterPass," says Shane Howell, Westpac's chief product officer, in the release. "Digital devices are giving customers more control over the transactional side of their banking and more ability to self-serve at a time and place that suits them."
Currently over 40,000 merchants around the world accept MasterPass. After launching the product in Canada in 2013, this year MasterCard steadily expanded the digital wallet to more regions, including last month's addition of

"MasterPass is a crucial step in the evolution from plastic cards to digital wallets."
