MagicCube, NTT Data partner to deploy PIN-on-glass

Security platform provider MagicCube is partnering with IT services company NTT Data to certify and deploy software that allows the secure input of sensitive data on a touch screen.

The companies say the combination of MagicCube's EMVCo-certified PIN-on-glass solution with Tokyo-based NTT Data's integration and hosting capabilities will help power what they view as the next generation of payments, acceptance applications and devices.

“When software replaces hardware, everything becomes downloadable and upgradeable, which allows the market to grow exponentially," Sam Shawki, CEO of Santa Clara-based MagicCube, said in a Monday press release.

MagicCube's trusted software approach will bring "payment acceptance to the 21st century" and benefit progressive large retailers as well as micro merchants seeking an ability to accept PIN codes on phone or tablet screens, Shawki adaded.

MagicCube and NTT Data will begin their partnership by offering PIN-on-glass payment solutions for Japanese retailers. The companies will also leverage the platform to offer all payment-related functions from the cloud.

“By partnering with MagicCube, we’re accelerating the delivery of secure, cutting-edge payment solutions for retail merchants,” Masanori Kurihara, head of cards & payments services division at NTT Data, said in the release. “Given the ongoing digitization of retail payments and associated security concerns, our PIN-on-glass solutions will satisfy crucial demand by providing scalable, software-based POS capabilities with the same security found in hardware-based technologies.”
