As president of Verifone Europe, the past year for June Felix has been all about strengthening the terminal manufacturer's position in the market she oversees.
In that time, Verifone's European market share has grown more than 10 percentage points, and Felix declares it her proudest moment in a career that spans 26 years, including nearly two at the helm of the European market for Verifone.
"My charter has been to further build Verifone's European franchise into a client-first and operationally excellent, strategically focused business," Felix said. Her most recent initiatives include building a client business in Russia.
Such major undertakings, as well as other contributions to the payments industry, have earned Felix recognition as one of PaymentsSource's Most Influential Women in Payments for 2016.
Prior to joining Verifone in 2014, Felix also earned the American Banker honor for Innovation in Payments, as well as the Edison Award for Payments Innovation. Felix was managing director of global enterprise payments for Citi for nearly four years, and global general manager of banking and financial markets at IBM for more than eight years. Her experience also includes stints as CEO of Certco, a senior vice president role for JPMorgan Chase, vice president at Deutsche Bank and senior associate at Booz & Company.
Verifone is currently focused on multi-channel managed payment services, utilizing the scale and flexibility of the cloud, Felix added, calling it a "highly secure commerce architecture that increases efficiency and insulates the POS from data breaches."
"Merchants can't afford to just hit the pause button, because the pace of innovation in payments and e-commerce is relentless," she added.
Outside of her professional life, Felix points with pride to her work with the Episcopal Charities of New York in helping a million children and adults in the area with a wide range of food, after-school and skills training services.
Although "women have made great strides breaking into the top ranks of payment companies," most tech companies have been male-dominated historically, she said.
"There are certainly cultural and traditional obstacles to still overcome," Felix said. "It is imperative that female leaders mentor the next generation of female leaders to provide insights and experiences that will help them learn to achieve success."
