Judopay, Thyngs bring touch-free payments to U.K. hospitality

Mobile payments provider Judopay is partnering with marketing specialist Thyngs to provide touch-free payments for pubs and restaurants that just reopened in the U.K.

In addition to providing QR code and Near Field Communication payments technology for the hospitality sector, the companies are offering the same tech for charities as a way to accept cash-free donations during and after the pandemic.

Thyngs' technology turns any physical branded object into a point of sale using smart "tap and go" QR codes or NFC on items such as signs, table menus and carryout boxes. The process removes the need for a payment card terminal and reduces human interaction when accepting in-person payments.

Judopay provides the app-free technology to tap a smartphone on the item or scan the QR code through a standard phone camera.

"We're pleased to be powering Thyngs' payments, with the ability to offer its touch-free technology to those businesses impacted by the lockdown," Jeremy Nicholds, CEO at London-based Judopay, said in a Tuesday press release. "It will solve many of the issues that food and beverage merchants are facing."

The partnership bolsters Judopay's U.K.-wide campaign to provide small and medium size businesses with a platform for business advice, and guidance or digital payment support during the coronavirus pandemic.

Judopay works closely with Mastercard, Discover and Visa, while Thyngs actively works with more than 300 charities to establish cashless donations.
