JCB signs deals to expand European reach

Japanese credit card brand JCB has signed several deals to expand its global acceptance online and at the point of sale.

A new alliance with Britain-based fuel merchant BP will enable JCB card acceptance at BP gas stations in the Netherlands and Luxembourg beginning this year, with plans to expand to Austria, Switzerland and the U.K. next year, the credit card brand said in a recent press release.

In another new deal with processor Global Payments, JCB is rolling out card acceptance in Malta that will include contactless support in the region beginning next year, JCB said in the release.

Turkish Airlines also has added JCB as a payment option for travelers applying for e-visa applications to Turkey, according to the release. JCB customers also may purchase Turkish Airline tickets at travel agencies and online booking sites, the release said.

JCB separately has renewed an agreement with Adyen that will expand JCB’s reach as a payment option for global e-commerce, and contactless JCB payment acceptance is now enabled at all Adyen POS terminals.

“We are constantly aiming to grow both our cross-border and local e-commerce (reach) including in-app mobile payment footprint,” said Tsuyoshi Notani, managing director of JCB International Europe Ltd., in the release.

Tokyo-based JCB has more than 117 million card customers worldwide, according to the release.
