Global Payments Inc. has finalized an agreement to distribute Mobeewave’s contactless mobile card acceptance technology to its Canadian clients beginning this spring.

Atlanta-based Global Payments conducted a pilot using Mobeewave’s technology last year, including at a large hockey tournament where event staff used NFC-enabled phones to collect donations from thousands of players.
The Mobeewave deal is an opportunity to “change the way consumers and merchants interact,” Frank T. Young, senior vice president for global product and innovation, said in the press release. The Canadian payments market is primed for mobile contactless payments because of the high penetration of contactless cards, added Benjamin du Hays, Mobeewave’s co-founder and CEO, in the release.
