Carrefour Pay will initially operate on Android devices as a Near Field Communication contactless payment option in the more than 3,000 Carrefour stores in France and at other retailers accepting NFC payments.

The mobile app will support payments, loyalty programs and redeeming discount coupons, the company said in a Monday press release.

Carrefour Pay is automatically available to customers using PASS Mastercards or the retailer's C-Zam cards. There is no payment limit on the mobile wallet.

All bank cards will be eligible to be added to the wallet in the coming months, and all Carrefour e-commerce sites in France will accept Carrefour Pay, which can be accessed through the Carrefour&Moi mobile app, the company said.

In the same manner as Apple Pay, which launched in France in 2016, users of the Carrefour mobile app will scan in the payment cards they want available in the wallet and receive a text message with a security code to confirm.
