Flywire expands cross-border tuition payment network to Australia

Flywire, the Boston-based firm specializing in cross-border tuition payments, has expanded to Australia, the third most popular destination in the world for international education behind the U.S. and the U.K.

With its new Sydney office — the company's seventh in six Asian and European countries — Flywire is expanding local support for students attending more than 1,100 schools and universities worldwide, Flywire said in a Nov. 9 press release. Flywire processes payments in 220 countries and in 70 currencies.

More than half a million international students were enrolled in Australian schools in August 2016, up 12% over last year, Flywire said in the release. The top points of origin for international visitors studying in Australia were China (17%), Malaysia (16%), India (11%), South Korea (8%) and Vietnam (3%).

“Australia is a very popular and growing destination for international education and a key market in our global expansion,” said Mike Massaro, Flywire’s CEO, in the release.

Flywire opened its office in Japan in April and last year expanded to the U.K.
