FIS, PAI Partner for Mobile Access to Retail ATMs

FIS is working with ATM processing and services provider Payment Alliance International to expand its Cardless Cash program nationally.

Cardless Cash gives consumers card-free ATM access through a mobile app and is already supported by 34 U.S. banks. The partnership with PAI would bring the service to more than 70,000 ATMs in a network of large retailers, gas stations and convenience stores, according to a July 15 news release.

“Our clients are always looking for ways to improve their offerings, drive more revenue and surpass customers’ expectations,” John Leehy, president and chief executive of PAI, said in the release. “This partnership brings the latest in transaction security to the PAI ATM network, while enhancing customer convenience and improving their overall ATM experience.”

FIS says its offering reduces the risk of card skimming (illegally scanning data from the magnetic stripe of one card to write to a counterfeit) and shoulder surfing (spying on an ATM user to obtain their PIN code). The smartphone acting as a remote control for the ATM makes the process more private and secure for consumers. Withdrawals take 10 second to complete, FIS says, and users receive a digital receipt on their phones.
