Equifax Buys TrustedID to Bolster Identity Protection

Credit bureau and payments data company Equifax has acquired TrustedID, a company that offers identity and privacy protection products.

TrustedID will become part of Equifax Personal Solutions, Equifax's direct-to-consumer business unit that offers credit monitoring and identity protection. TrustedID serves consumers directly and through partners such as AARP Services.

Trusted ID also offers technology that allows consumers to monitor and manage their online reputation within social media services such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Other services include the ability to opt out of catalogs and other mailings.

"By combining [Trusted ID's] capabilities with our operational, product, marketing and data assets, we will continue to enhance and expand our suite of credit and identity solutions," said Trey Loughran, president of Equifax Personal Solutions, in a release.

The companies did not disclose financial terms of the deal.

Equifax also provides services for businesses, including a product that helps payment processors comply with merchant validation requirements for tax reporting rules and a scoring engine to aid card issuers' marketing.
