The eShop platform will operate through the ePages e-commerce platform and Elavon's new payments gateway. It is designed to enable retailers to build a branded online presence without any technical skill needs or through the use of a web design agency.
The partnership highlights the need for retailers to embrace mobile technology that affects consumer behavior in modern retail environments in which there is an increasing demand for experiences on multiple sales channels.
The eShop has built-in search engine optimization and integrates with social media channels, while also expanding scale through mobile or other e-commerce tools. Merchants can also connect to delivery options and other online services through APIs.
After the initial rollout in the U.K. and Ireland, the companies say they will plan future launches in key markets throughout Europe.
U.S. Bancorp's Elavon will provide its PCI-DSS compliant encryption and fraud-prevention technologies to the service. The platform includes Elavon's acquiring software, which can process card payments. eShop will be available for sale to Elavon's ISO partners as well as directly to merchants and retailers.
