Payment security services provider EchoSat has purchased SmartLink, a division of Heartland Payment Systems.
As part of the deal, EchoSat also signed into a channel partner agreement with Heartland, through which Heartland sales people will promote EchoSat Secure Payment Gateway, PaySafe SPG, SmartLink Premium and managed network services to merchants. Financial details for the transaction were not disclosed.

Following the SmartLink deal, EchoSat will serve 21,000 merchant locations, including petroleum/convenience stores, quick service restaurants and supermarkets.
"We are excited about acquiring the SmartLink division of Heartland and the increased scale this transaction adds to EchoSat," said EchoSat chairman Tom Wimsett in a Jan. 4 news release.
“However, we are most excited about our new partnership with Heartland and their proven ability to successfully sell and help expand our managed firewall and network solutions,” he said.
EchoSat’s high-speed, redundant SPG network lets merchants broadcast payments data securely on any broadband connection accessed via digital subscriber line (DSL), cable, wireless or satellite. PaySafe SPG, another EchoSat service, offers network segmentation, security and redundancy for payments data and protects point-of-sale systems from external and internal breach.
Prior to the deal, EchoSat had supplied Heartland SmartLink with the core aspects of its secure payments service since it was created in 2010, EchoSat chief executive Mark Carl noted in the news release.
