Discover Adds Fime for EMV Chip Testing, Certification

Global EMV consultant and system tester Fime will provide end-to-end certification services for terminals and acceptance systems using the Discover Network and Diners Club International payment applications.

Discover has accredited Paris-based Fime to formally approve systems accepting chip cards and operating with the D-Payment Application Specifications. As a Discover-approved service provider, Fime will also offer consulting services to acquirers preparing their systems for end-to-end certification.

“Card acquiring banks and direct-connect merchants need to certify that their Discover and Diners Club acceptance infrastructure can receive and support EMV chip cards,” Xavier Giandominici, vice president of financial services at Fime, stated in a May 4 press release. “We have the knowledge, tools and capacity to enable Discover acquirers and merchants to complete this step successfully.”

Fime's consulting includes testing tools, certification services and training workshops for acquirers and direct-connect merchants. Pre-certification consulting provides test set-up, testing and fault diagnosis support, conducted on-site or remotely by EMV acquiring specialists.

“Fime can now provide certification services to acquirers and merchants with Discover and Diners Club enabled contact and contactless D-PAS terminals,” Ellie Smith, head of Chip Center of Excellence at Discover, said in the release.  “These services help to streamline certification and deployment processes globally for EMV, which will benefit merchants and acquirers by reducing time to market.”

Earlier this year, Fime began certifying chip-based RuPay cards to comply with national payment requirements in India.
