Contactless pay for donations expands in Australia

Charitable giving has long been a staple of contactless payment technology, and an Australian payments provider hopes reach donors with a contactless countertop solution that accepts consumer charity donations will less staffing and administration needs.

Quest Payment Systems unveiled Donation Point Tap on Nov. 17 at the Australian Council of Social Service. It aims to reverse a decline in charities' cash-based donation revenues through contactless channel for receiving donations.

"Donation collection can be challenging, managing volunteer networks is time consuming and using third party charity collectors can reduce the actual campaign dollars received by charities," Jan Mason, Quest's chief executive, said in a Nov. 18 news release.

The device is custom designed and branded for the particular charity. Using Quest's mobile payments technology, consumers can tap their card or NFC-enabled mobile device to donate a pre-set amount, and it electronically transfers funds to the charity's bank account each business day. The charity can manage its donation configuration and reporting through Quest’s online web portal.

"Donation Point Tap has been designed to address a fundraising issue identified by charities we have been involved with," Damien Halloran, Quest’s director of sales and marketing, said in the release. "It is essential to stay relevant when competing for the charity dollar and meet the changing expectations of potential donors."

Contactless and mobile technology are considered a key way to remove work from charitable payments, and are a popular play for mobile payment companies--Apple Pay, for example, just added features and entered a series of collaborations with nonprofits that are designed to make donations easier.
