Nearly a year after Chinese phone maker Huawei announced plans to expand Huawei Pay internationally, the mobile payment service has gone live in Russia, its first foreign market.
The move builds on a global cooperation
Through partnerships with Moscow-based financial institutions Gazprombank and the Russian Agricultural Bank, customers who have a UnionPay card and own a Huawei smartphone may use their handsets to pay at contactless-enabled terminals, according to a recent Huawei press release.
Huawei Pay's rollout in Russia lays a foundation for a broader global expansion of the service in the future, Huawei said in the release.
