Chase Pay partners with airline network to add mobile checkout

Chase and UATP, the airline-owned payment network, are collaborating to make Chase Pay an option on airline websites and mobile apps.

The UATP integration supports a network-wide connection for Chase's payments app. While UATP is owned by the airlines, thousands of merchants accept it as a payment choice for air, rail and travel agency payments.

"We've had requests for Chase Pay from our carrier members as well,” Ralph Kaiser, the payment network's president and CEO, said in a press release.

Chase Pay was launched in 2015 as a merchant-friendly payment option for mobile wallets, websites and in-store checkout with the benefit of lower fees. It brings together all of Chase’s debit, credit and prepaid card customers who have been issued Visa network cards under a single payment platform. When Chase Pay was launched, Chase announced this platform would have 94 million accounts.

"Making checkout easier with Chase Pay will make it more convenient for our customers to book and enjoy travel," Jennifer Roberts, head of digital products and Chase Pay at Chase, said in the press release.

Chase Pay was recently added as a funding option to Samsung Pay, an interesting pairing since Samsung Pay is NFC-enabled and Chase Pay supports QR code payments. Now Chase Pay customers can pay with a tap when they link Chase Pay to Samsung Pay. Chase Pay has also been deployed at other transportation venues such as a transit terminal near the World Trade Center.

And in 2017 Chase announced it would offer a cash-back incentive for its credit card account holders who pay with any mobile wallet, including but not limited to Chase Pay.
