Barclaycard executive to join TSYS leadership

Philip McHugh, a top-ranking executive with Barclaycard, will join the processor Total System Services Inc. as its senior executive vice president and president of merchant solutions, effective May 1.

McHugh joins TSYS with 20 years of experience in international banking and payments, including 10 years at Barclaycard Business Solutions, where he was CEO and also served as chief financial officer. Prior to Barclays, McHugh spent 10 years with Citigroup covering Latin America, including as a manager in the credit card division in Brazil.

"Anyone who has worked in payments knows TSYS as a true leader in the space with a reputation of always focusing on their customers," McHugh said of the payments processor and technology provider in a Jan. 27 press release. "They have great people, a great culture and exciting plans to grow."

McHugh will report directly to Pam Joseph, president and chief operating officer at Columbus, Ga.-based TSYS.

"We are thrilled to have a visionary such as Philip join our executive leadership team at TSYS," Joseph said in the release. McHugh's global experience across all facets of payments and extensive knowledge of the acquiring industry "will be tremendous assets" for TSYS, Joseph added.

McHugh earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., and his Master of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina.
