Appetize Scores Vikings' Stadium Payment Deal

Tablet-based point-of-sale provider Appetize has landed the contract to provide terminals at the new U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis, where games for the NFL Minnesota Vikings, and other special events will take place.

Appetize will provide more than 600 fixed and portable POS devices for concession stands, premium stores and portable retail areas in and around the new stadium complex.

U.S. Bank Stadium is scheduled to open in July, and has been chosen as the site for Super Bowl LII in 2018, and the NCAA Men's Final Four in 2019.

The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority, owner and operator of U.S. Bank Stadium, and Appetize are planning advanced payment concepts for fans, including innovations in efficient queuing, customer facing kiosks and mobile app ordering that speed delivery of food and beverage to visitors. Digital menu boards and ticketing integration are included in the plan.

Santa Monica, Calif.-based Appetize has developed into a significant player in the payments landscape for sports stadiums and outdoor theater venues since first entering that market with a mobile app for fans to choose seats and pre-order concessions at a stadium. That app ultimately evolved into Appetize Activate, a tablet- and cloud-based terminal for stadiums and outdoor concerts.

Appetize currently provides ordering and payment technology at more than 350 entertainment venues and festivals.
