Airbnb Adds Amex to Ease Booking

Airbnb is integrating with American Express to enable cardholders to sign up for the short-term rental platform and using its services.

Through the partnership between Airbnb and American Express, cardholders can now create an Airbnb account with their existing americanexpress.com user ID and password. Additionally, American Express membership rewards points can be used to book directly on Airbnb and cover all or part of the bill.

The Airbnb website will now feature a “Sign Up with Amex” button and also allow consumers to signal if they are Amex cardholders for extra verification.

“Our Card Members love one-of-a-kind and memorable travel experiences, and with this partnership, we're creating a frictionless and valuable way for them to take advantage of everything Airbnb has to offer,” Amex executive vice president Leslie Berland said in a Nov. 3 news release.

One of the major brands in the emerging mobile economy, Airbnb utilizes technology from Braintree to enable transactions, which was one of the major attractions when PayPal purchased Braintree two years ago.
