Zions Bancorp. in Salt Lake City posted stronger third-quarter earnings from lower costs and higher fee income. The $58.4 billion-asset company said in a press release Monday that its earnings rose 6% from a year earlier, to $84.2 million, or 41 cents a share.

Zions Bancorp. in Salt Lake City has promoted two executives to leadership roles in the bank's technology division.
Joe Reilly, chief information officer, was promoted to the newly created role of chief technology strategist. Jennifer Smith, director of enterprise operations since 2011, will succeed him as CIO.
The $58.4 billion-asset company's technology strategy includes planning, architecture and executing technology initiatives. As CIO, Smith will deliver the banking divisions with innovative technology solutions and operational support, according to a news release.
Both Reilly and Smith will also serve on the company's executive management committee.
Reilly joined Zions in 2001 as director of architecture and development and has served as CIO since 2011. He has also worked in leadership positions as director of information systems and technology and chief technology officer. Previously, he worked at Bank of America, Xpede and Alltel Information Services.
Smith previously held senior management roles at Wells Fargo in technology and operations risk management, as well as internal audit.
