Umpqua Bank Lures Technology Executive from First Horizon

Umpqua Bank has lured a veteran executive from First Horizon National Corporation (FHN) to lead its efforts to improve customers' experiences.

The $11.5 billion-asset subsidiary of Umpqua Holdings Corporation (UMPQ) said Monday it has named Sonny Sonnenstein executive vice president and chief information officer.

Since 2009 he has served as a technology executive with First Horizon in Memphis, where he was responsible for technology strategy and developing applications that supported varied corporate functions.

Sonnenstein, a certified public accountant, previously held a series of senior posts at Wachovia and PwC over the course of a career that spans roughly 20 years.

"We are committed to ensuring our customers have an unparalleled experience whether they are in our stores, visiting us online, or banking on mobile devices," Ray Davis, Umpqua Bank's chief executive, said in a news release. "Sonny's decades of experience at the intersection of financial services and technology provide us key leadership for 2013 and beyond, enabling us to meet and exceed what our customers have grown to expect from Umpqua Bank."

Sonnenstein succeeds Colin Eccles, who has left the company.
