Two Key Execs Leave Green Dot

The revolving door continues to spin at prepaid company Green Dot (GDOT) following two more high-profile exits.

John MacIlwaine, its chief information officer, and Michael Strange, it chief technology officer, have left the company, a spokeswoman confirmed this week. She declined to elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the departures.

Their exits follow an announcement in January that Mark Troughton, president of cards and network, left to "pursue new start-up opportunities." The head of marketing also left in the last year.

Will Sowell, Green Dot's chief operating officer, said in a statement to American Banker that MacIlwaine and Strange left Green Dot in the last couple of weeks. Mitek, a mobile imaging software provider, announced earlier this month that it has hired Strange as its chief technology officer.

Sowell said that Sam Altman, the founder and former chief executive at Loopt, has replaced Strange as Green Dot's chief technology officer. Green Dot acquired Loopt, a location-based deals company, in April.

"We continue to evolve our technology group to become a modern, more agile-based organization that is comfortable in the development of the latest types of tools and technologies needed to deliver our product road map for the years ahead," Sowell said in the statement. "As we continue to execute our strategy, many of Green Dot's technology professionals will stay with our company for years to come, and some may choose to pursue other opportunities."

Sowell added that Green Dot "will continue to aggressively recruit for the best engineering talent in both our Northern and Southern California locations."

MacIlwaine, a former Visa executive, was a relatively recent addition to the team, having joined the company in December.
