The Bancorp Hires Chief Compliance Officer from Amex

The Bancorp in Wilmington, Del., named Sepideh Behram to the role of chief compliance officer.

Her hiring comes as the $4.8 billion-asset company works to shore up its risk and compliance management. In October, The Bancorp hired Steven Turowski as chief risk officer.

"Appointing Sepideh Behram to the critical role of Chief Compliance Officer is yet another demonstration of The Bancorp’s commitment to designing and maintaining a best-in-class compliance risk culture," Turowski said in a press release Wednesday.

Behram joined the company from American Express, where she was the vice president of global compliance and ethics for the global corporate payments division. Previously, Behram has served as chief compliance officer at Travelex Global Business Payment and as director of global anti-money-laundering efforts for E-Trade Financial. Additionally, Behram has worked as the compliance counsel in the Center for Regulatory Compliance of the American Bankers Association, during which time she oversaw regulatory efforts in anti-money-laundering and Bank Secrecy Act matters.

The Bancorp has faced regulatory scrutiny in recent years. In January 2015, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. hit The Bancorp with an insurance premium surcharge for alleged problems with the treatment of prepaid accounts. In 2014, the bank entered a consent order with the FDIC over deficiencies in its Bank Secrecy Act compliance programs.
