Prosperity in Texas Taps New President

Prosperity Bancshares in Houston has named a new president.

Prosperity said in a press release Thursday that Edward Safady, previously chairman of Prosperity Bank's central Texas region, will become president of the $21.6 billion-asset company and the bank's vice chairman, effective Friday. He will also join the company's executive committee.

Safady joined the company when it bought Liberty Bank, where he was chairman, president and chief executive.

Prosperity's executive committee had been handling the president's responsibilities since Dan Rollins left in late 2012 to become chief executive of BancorpSouth in Tupelo, Miss.

The company also announced that Bob Benter, chairman of the bank's Houston area, will become president of the bank. Robert Dowdell, regional president for the Houston area, was named an executive vice president of the company and the bank.

David Zalman remains the company's chairman and chief executive.
