MVB Financial (MVBF) has added a former first lady to its board of directors.
Gayle Manchin has been elected to serve on the board of the Fairmont, W.Va., bank, it announced Monday. Her husband, Joe Manchin, was West Virginia governor from 2005 through 2010 and is now the state's junior U.S. senator.
Gayle Manchin is a longtime teacher and president of the West Virginia Board of Education. Earlier she worked in the Marion County school system and was a faculty member at Fairmont State University, located in MVB's hometown of Fairmont.
MVB has an 18-member board that includes bankers, an accountant, a lawyer and three physicians. Manchin will serve on the governance committee.
Her husband holds the U.S. Senate seat made vacant by the death of Robert Byrd, the longest-serving senator in U.S. history. Joe Manchin, a Democrat, won a special election in 2010 before winning a full term two years later with more than 60% of the vote.
