As head of new product development at U.S. Bank, Vanessa Angeles leads a team that creates cash management solutions for corporate and commercial clients. Recently, Angeles helped steer one pilot product in a different direction.
The bank was working on a virtual account management (VAM) project that was initially seen as having one important use: as a defensive product that would help clients ensure requests for payment would not be lost. However, Angeles saw much more potential in this VAM solution, identifying it as a next-generation technology that could help fintech and other clients support their customers. As a result, U.S. Bank was able to transform the VAM program into one that could be scaled beyond what had initially been imagined.
"There are many use cases and industry applications for VAM, as it is a solution that meets the need for any business that requires intensive cash management, such as frequent account openings or closings, precise reporting and fluidity – like title and escrow companies, suppliers and construction," Angeles said.
Angeles also is active outside of the bank, including working as an advisor for the Out Next Talent Accelerator, which helps foster the next generation of LGBTQ+ leaders.
"As a leader who is a multiracial woman and a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I embody the intersectionality that is at the core of diversity, equity and inclusion," Angeles said. "I hope organizations will further advance their DEI efforts beyond critical hiring practices and actively identify more meaningful ways to embed it within the fabric of their company culture."
