Ranjana Clark has long been committed to working seamlessly across borders. The COVID-19 pandemic, of course, made that more challenging.
But as the pandemic's restrictions eased in 2022, Clark was able to lean more aggressively into that commitment. From London to Amsterdam to Paris to New York City and to Singapore, she connected by holding in-person town halls with team members and clients to hear their ideas on the post-pandemic business environment.
As the first and only woman to run a global business at MUFG, Clark brings a unique perspective to her job of globalizing regional businesses across 24 countries. She is a 37-year financial services veteran who has held top executive positions at PayPal, Western Union and Wells Fargo. She joined the $163 billion-asset MUFG America Holdings, a division of the Japanese banking giant Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, in 2013. She has quickly added responsibilities in the nine years since, specializing in the intersection of technology and product development.
A champion of ESG, Clark helped launch "Green Deposits" a liquidity vehicle that allows commercial and corporate clients to invest their surplus cash deposits in environmentally-friendly projects. Green Deposits initially launched in the U.S. in February 2021, and was introduced in Australia, China and Japan last April.
Last September, U.S. Bancorp announced that it planned to acquire Union Bank, and the $8 billion deal was expected to close in the first half of 2022. The merger has been delayed, however, due to increased regulatory scrutiny.
Beyond her leadership roles at MUFG, Clark is on the Board of Directors of StanCorp Financial Group, Inc., serving on its audit and nominating & corporate governance committees. In July 2021, joined the Board of Xometry, Inc., a leading marketplace for on-demand manufacturing enabled by Artificial Intelligence. Committed to education and civic engagement, Clark is on the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business board of directors. She also serves on the executive committee and the board of the Bay Area Council, a business-sponsored public policy advocacy organization.
"Through Board service, I have the opportunity to share my experience and help companies accelerate growth and scale, and nonprofits advance their missions," she said. "Serving on business, civic, and non-profit Boards enables me to bring new and broader perspectives to my current responsibilities at MUFG."
