Managing Director, Head of Consumer Retail Equity Capital Markets
Michaela Diverio started her career in finance after graduating from William & Mary in 2007. She joined Morgan Stanley as an associate, and spent the next six years in equity capital markets and investment banking. She next worked at Goldman Sachs and spent 11 years in the equity capital market covering tech, media and telecom.
She joined Barclays in July 2020 and runs the consumer and retail equity capital markets desk. As part of that role, she oversees a team of 10 and drives the execution of initial public offerings, follow-ons, and block trades for clients in the sector.
"Since joining Barclays in the midst of the pandemic, Michaela has repeatedly demonstrated her ability to take on the C-suite in the future. Her hard work and persistence are amplified by her passion for her work, her attention to detail and exceptional ability to organize teams around opportunities. Michaela knows her trade; she also is fiercely competitive, knows what winning requires, and believes in her right to win," said Taylor Wright, global co-head of investment banking at Barclays.
It's a challenging time to be working in equity capital markets, given the dearth of dealmaking in the past year. In response, Diverio hit the road, meeting with clients and potential clients across the country. And although her role is client-facing, she organized multiple "lunch and learn" sessions for junior capital markets colleagues to gain a better understanding of technical subject matter such as convertibles and derivatives, risk arbitrage, etc., and connected them with key partners in the markets business.
Outside of work, Diverio volunteers with Venture for America, a program which pairs bankers with young businesses in need to provide free financial consultations. These consultations help businesses identify the source of their problems and implement solutions to fix them. She is also a part of GAC, which is a self-governing body of bankers that have a goal of making the junior banking experience better.
